Description

Description:
Antique English pewter plain rim plate of 9.75 inch diameter. The front rim is engraved with the crown of George IV above the initials 'WP'. The reverse bears the touchmark of Thomas Dean Alderson of London who worked 1796 - 1852, along with a London label and two crowned X.
Thomas Dean Alderson is very well known for being the Pewterer to King George IV and for producing the pewter dinner service for the coronation banquet held on 19th July 1821. This plate is identical to those made for the coronation banquet and the style of the engraving is the same; this form of Royal coronet denotes the child of the son of the Sovereign. Who this is remains a mystery; this plate is possibly a unique one off item.
